FT: CELTIC 0 BARCELONA 1 A goal from Cesc Febregas 14 minutes from time breaks the hearts of a Celtic side reduced to ten men after the dismissal of Scott Brown just before the hour. The former Arsenal midfielder arrived unmarked to cap a Barcelona fast break with a header from close range from a right-wing cross by Alexis Sanchez. Brown was dismissed after foolishly kicking out at Neymar having initially sent the Brazilian tumbling to the ground with a trip. Celtic were poor with the ball, but worked heroically without it, however the numerical disadvantage proved too much. Ironically, their best chance came when they were down to ten, Craig Forrest being denied by Victor Valdes and Charlie Mulgrew heading wide of an open goal from the resulting corner. Barcelona could have added to their total late on as the Hoops pushed for an equaliser, but Fraser Forster made three quite magnificent saves to keep the score respectable. Two wins out of two for Barca and two defeats out of two for Celtic in Group H.

  • 90'

FORSTER SAVES AGAIN Neymar is in on goal, but Forster makes another outstanding save.

  • 90'

INTO STOPPAGE TIME There will be a minimum of four minutes of added time.

  • 90'

BARCELONA BOOKING Alexis Sanchez trips Georgios Samaras and that's yet more ink applied to the referee's notebook.

  • 89'

BARCELONA SUBSTITUTION Alex Song replaces Andres Iniesta for Barcelona.

  • 89'

BRILLIANT FROM FORSTER Fraser Forster makes two absolutely brilliant saves low down to deny Neymar and Sanchez. That was world class goalkeeping.

  • 86'

CELTIC SUBSTITUTION Lennon's final switch sees Teemu Pukki replace Kris Commons.

  • 85'

CELTIC BOOKING Emillio Izaguirre sends Marc Bartra flying and is the latest Celtic player in the book. Even Neil Lennon would have no complaints with that one.

  • 84'

ALL NOT LOST FOR HOOPS The one saving grace for Celtic at the moment is that Ajax and Milan are still deadlocked in Amsterdam.

  • 82'

CRUCIAL TACKLE Van Dijk makes a crucial challenge to throw Neymar off his stride, otherwise the Brazilian was lining up a shot on Forster which may well have finished the game as a contest.

  • 78'

CELTIC BOOKING Samaras catches Busquets with a late tackle and he's in the book.

  • 78'

BARCELONA SUBSTITUTION Cesc Fabregas makes way for Cristian Tello.

  • 77'

MORE ON THAT GOAL It's a heart-breaker for Celtic. Neymar broke down the middle and fed Sanchez on the right. His cross to the edge of the six-yard box was met by a cushioned header from the former Arsenal man and the ball nestled in the corner with Forster helpless.

  • 76'

GOAL: CELTIC 0 BARCELONA 1 Cesc Fabregas heads Barcelona in front.

  • 75'

BARCELONA BOOKING A nasty tackle by Sergio Busquets on Beram Kayal earns the Barca man a yellow card.

  • 72'

CHANGE IN THE OFFING Alexis Sanchez is getting ready to come on for the visitors.

  • 70'

DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION Celtic make a double switch. It's James Forrest and Beram Kayal for Lustig and Stokes.

  • 69'

ON THE DEFENSIVE It's attack against defence at the moment. A cross-shot from Fabregas is beaten down at the near post by Forster.

  • 66'

SAVE FROM FORSTER Fraser Forster is tested for the first time, diving to his left to make a comfortable save from a well-struck low shot by Marc Bartra.

  • 65'

UNSTEADY FROM VALDES Victor Valdes flaps at a free-kick delivered into the area from Mikael Lustig and is a little lucky Virgil van Dijk was unable to react quickly enough behind him to apply the decisive touch.

  • 62'

BROWN LOSES THE PLOT Celtic will be livid at that decision, and no doubt Neil Lennon will be hugely critical in the post-match press conference. But Brown's extremely foolish to even give the referee the opportunity and he will miss the next match with Ajax.

  • 60'

RED CARD FOR CELTIC Scott Brown is dismissed and Celtic are down to ten men. He tripped Neymar, then aimed a kick at the Brazilian as he was on the floor. Contact was minimal, but the intent was definitely there.

  • 58'

PIQUE TO THE RESCUE Just for a split-second, it looks as if Stokes might be in on goal, but Pique closes down the space very quickly and sticks out a foot just in time to clear the danger.

  • 57'

GOALBOUND SHOT BLOCKED Neymar falls on the edge of the area, but the ball breaks to Fabregas, whose fierce drive deflects off Efe Ambrose to saefty.

  • 56'

BARCELONA BOOKING Fabregas is harshly booked for a perfectly good tackle on Stokes. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that.

  • 53'

BROWN BLASTS OVER Barcelona have trouble clearing the ball for once, but Scott Brown shoots way too high from outside the box.

  • 50'

STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT Celtic's front two Georgios Samaras and Anthony Stokes have barely had a touch since the opening few minutes. The service has been poor, it's not really their fault.

  • 47'

ALL SQUARE ALL ROUND It's also goalless in the other Group H game between Ajax and Milan at half-time. If both matches stay level it will be the perfect evening for Celtic.

  • 46'

HERE WE GO AGAIN Celtic get the second half under way.

  • 45'

HT: CELTIC 0 BARCELONA 0 Celtic make it to half-time still level, which is quite an achievement considering how little of the ball they have seen. Barcelona have dominated, but all their good football has been in areas where they have been unable to hurt the home side. There haven't really been any chances to speak off, Neymar's first-time effort that went wide just before the interval probably the closest we have been to a goal. Neil Lennon will be happy with the effort from the Hoops, but will be telling them they need to pass the ball much better than they have so far.

  • 45'

SCARE FOR FORSTER Forster makes a right mess of Xavi's free-kick and is lucky it deflects off his arm for a corner. That could so easily have ended up in the net.

  • 44'

CELTIC BOOKING Mikael Lustig trips Neymar outside the area on the left and is deservedly shown the first yellow card of the night.

  • 41'

NEYMAR GOES CLOSE Alves whips in a ball to the near post and a sublime first-time half-volley from Neymar is a whisker wide of the upright. That's the closest we've come so far.

  • 40'

PASS MASTERS Barcelona have completed 310 passes so far and Celtic 53. That's pretty much all you need to know about the game five minutes before half-time.

  • 37'

GOT ANY ASPIRIN? Actually, check that. Neymar is still on the sidelines and appears to genuinely be hurt. The physio is concentrating on a spot in the middle of his forehead and he looks in a little discomfort. The noise from the Celtic fans is enough to give anyone a headache, mind you.

  • 35'

NEYMAR IN THE WARS Neymar goes down after an accidental collision with Emillio Izaguirre as if he has been floored by a haymaker from Mike Tyson. Unsurprisingly, he gets to his feet and is fine to continue.

  • 33'

WATCH OUT FOR NEYMAR Neymar has happy memories of playing Scottish opposition: he scored both of Brazil's goals as they saw off Scotland in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium back in March 2011.

  • 30'

DOMINATING POSSESSION Barcelona have enjoyed 78 per cent of the possession so far. They lack a cutting edge at the moment, but it is surely a matter of time before they create a meaningful opening.

  • 27'

INTO THE SIDE-NETTING Adriano dummies the ball and then latches on to a pass over the top from Neymar. He gets away a shot, but it is into the side-netting and never a concern for Forster.

  • 25'

NEYMAR TAKES A TUMBLE Neymar takes a dive over the outstretched leg of Mikael Lustig and is told to get to his feet by Mr Lannoy, who shows no yellow card for simulation. The referee is in generous mood tonight, which is good to see.

  • 23'

SO FAR SO GOOD A quarter of the way through the game and the visitors have not yet had a clear sight of goal. So far, so good, for Celtic.

  • 20'

SHOT FROM LONG RANGE Andres Iniesta takes a pot-shot from 30 yards which is always rising and clears the bar comfortably.

  • 19'

AMBROSE ESCAPES Efe Ambrose overruns the ball and ends up clobbering Busquets. He was very lucky not to collect an early caution for that one.

  • 18'

WIDE OF THE TARGET Fabregas gets in a snap-shot that is blocked by Ambrose, though it may have been going wide, which is where a scuffed effort from Naymar ends up.

  • 15'

UP FOR THE FIGHT Georgios Samaras is revelling in the big occasion, the Celtic frontman has shown a couple of really skilful touches already.

  • 13'

LUSTIG PUT TO THE TEST Neymar twists and turns down the left, but Lustig sticks to his task well and makes the tackle. Van Dijk heads the resulting corner away.

  • 10'

MUCH RESPECT Neil Lennon's view on the Barcelona team selection: “They've paid us a lot of respect, it's the strongest team they could have played tonight.”

  • 9'

COMMONS SHOT BLOCKED Mikael Lustig gets forward from right-back and after exchanging passes with Stokes tees up Commons, who sees his low shot blocked. This is a promising start by Celtic.

  • 8'

UNITED COLOURS OF BARCA It's almost easier to pick out the Barcelona players by the colour of their boots. Bright orange for Neymar and Fabregas, bright yellow for Iniesta and Pedro, bright blue for Xaxi.

  • 6'

SAMARAS IN SPACE Celtic make inroads into the Barcelona area. Stokes slides in Samaras, who sees his cross-shot from a very narrow angle blocked by Valdes.

  • 4'

ALERT DEFENDING Iniesta nutmegs Ambrose in the box, but Van Dijk is quickly across to make a saving tackle and Celtic clear the resulting corner.

  • 2'

GIVE US A KICK Barcelona play keep-ball from the kick-off. It's all of 106 seconds before a Celtic player even gets a kick. Is that a Champions League record?

  • 1'

HERE WE GO Barca kick off, attacking the goal to our right.

TEAM NEWS Mikael Lustig comes in for Teemu Pukki for Celtic and Barcelona make two changes from the weekend, Xavi replacing the injured Lionel Messi and Neymar taking the place of Alexis Sanchez, who drops to the bench.

PREVIEW Celtic welcome Barcelona to Celtic Park on Tuesday night hoping for another Champions League miracle. Neil Lennon's men achieved one of the more remarkable results in their recent history when they beat Lionel Messi and Co. on this ground in the same competition 11 months ago. That result was key in helping the Hoops progress from the group phase and victory tonight, while not quite a must, would come in pretty handy after an opening 2-0 defeat in Milan on Matchday 1. The Glasgow giants are buoyed by the news that Messi will not be available for this one. The four-time World Footballer of the Year injured his thigh against Almeria at the weekend and has been ruled out for up to three weeks. “It's obviously very good news for us because for me he's the best player in the world,” Lennon said. “But it's also tinged with sadness as it's always good to see the best players here in Glasgow.” Tonight's game kicks off at 1945BST, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.

NOT A REVENGE MISSION Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta denied the Catalans were coming to Glasgow motivated by a desire to avenge last season's shock defeat to Celtic. “It's always a pleasure to play at Celtic Park,” he said. “We're expecting a great atmosphere against an opponent who made things very difficult for us last year. They showed they knew how to play and knew how to beat us. They are very strong on their ground and they look to play with a lot of pressure.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH Celtic striker Giorgios Samaras struck his first hat-trick in three years in the 5-2 Scottish Premiership win at Kilmarnock on Saturday. He also scored in the Camp Nou when Celtic lost 2-1 to Barca in the Champions League last season. “He's hugely influential in these European games,” manager Neil Lennon said of the Greece forward. “He enjoys the arena and the challenges these games bring. If we are to get something out of the game, I need Samaras to have a big game.” With Messi missing, all eyes will fall on the Brazilian Neymar to carve open the Celtic defence. The 21-year-old has dazzling skills, especially with the ball at his feet, but comparisons with the little Argentine who is missing tonight are premature, according to Lennon. “It's like comparing a dog with a cat,” he said. “Neymar's wonderfully gifted, but the only player who can be compared to Messi is Cristiano Ronaldo.”

HEAD TO HEAD Tonight will be the 11th time these two sides have met. Barcelona have the edge with five wins to two by Celtic and three games finishing all square. There have been six meetings in the Champions League, four in the group stages and two in the round of 16, a two-legged clash in the competition formerly known as the Uefa Cup in 2004 and two more in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup all the way back in 1964. The last meeting, though, on Nov. 11 last year was the most famous, with Celtic winning 2-1 with goals from Victor Wanyama (21 mins) and Tony Watt (83), Lionel Messi pulling one back in stoppage time.

FORM GUIDE Celtic currently lie second in the Scottish Premiership, behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle on goal difference but still boasting an unbeaten record. This is already their 16th game of the season, with two of their three defeats coming in the Champions League to Shakter Karagandy and Milan and the other at the hands of lowly Morton in the Scottish League Cup. It's game 11 of the season for Barcelona, they have won eight of the other ten with the only minor blemishes being home and away draws to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup at the start of the season.

  • 0'

EARLY TEAM NEWS Derk Boerrigter is still bothered by the knock he suffered against Morton in the Scottish League Cup last week and is a doubtful starter. Midfielder Joe Ledley is still out with a groin injury but Beram Kayal (groin) and James Forrest (virus) have trained this week and are available. Barcelona's mercurial Lionel Messi is out with a thigh strain and Javier Mascherano, Jordi Alba and Carles Puyol are also sidelined.

  • 0'

MAN IN THE MIDDLE Taking charge of tonight's match is the highly experienced Stephane Lannoy. The Frenchman refereed two matches in the 2010 World Cup, the group games between Holland and Denmark and Brazil and Ivory Coast. He was also referee for the Euro 2012 semi-final between Italy and Germany, won 2-1 by Italy.
