BAYERN THRASH BARCELONA Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were simply irresistible as they smashed Barcelona 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena. Thomas Muller bagged a brace while Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben added the icing on a very large Bavarian cake. The only goal of the first half arrived after 25 minutes as Robben's cross was headed back across the face of goal by Dante before a flying Muller met the ball to send it past an embarrassed Victor Valdes. Jupp Heynckes' side took charge in the second period. Firstly, Robben's inswinging cross was headed back across the face of goal by Muller for striker Gomez to sweep home for his 11th goal in 11 starts for the Bundesliga giants this season. Dutchman Robben then bagged his second Champions League goal in seven matches with a left-foot finish from a tight angle, but it should have been disallowed as Muller body checked Jordi Alba in the build-up. They soon added a fourth when David Alaba's low ball into the box was finished easily by Muller for his seventh goal in 11 Champions League matches and his 20th of the season. Is this the end of an era for Barca or will they prove us all wrong in the Camp Nou next week by pulling off a miracle of all miracles? We have to wait and see!

  • 90'

FULL-TIME Bayern Munich have hammered Barcelona 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena.

  • 90'

INIESTA CARDED Andres Iniesta is booked for clipping Javi Martinez's boots.

  • 90'

STOPPAGE TIME We're into THREE added minutes of stoppage time at the Allianz Arena.

  • 88'

FINAL BAYERN CHANGE Now Bastian Schweinsteiger has been carded by referee Viktor Kassai. Meanwhile, Bayern make their last change as Swiss ace Xherdan Shaqiri replaces Franck Ribery.

  • 86'

SANCHEZ BOOKED Bayern have suffered just three defeats in all competitions this season and they are showing why they're treble chasing this season. Arjen Robben is pulled back by Alexis Sanchez, who is booked.

  • 84'

SUBSTITUTIONS Claudio Pizarro has come on for two-goal hero Thomas Muller, while David Villa has replaced Pedro for Barcelona.

  • 82'

IT'S FOUR FOR BAYERN Franck Ribery sets David Alaba away and his low ball into the box is finished easily by Thomas Muller. Goodness me! What a scoreline.

  • 82'

    GOOOAAALLL!!! THOMAS MULLER

  • 78'

MESSI TROUBLED Barcelona need something from Lionel Messi now, but the little man doesn't look his usual self. That hamstring injury is clearly troubling him tonight.

  • 73'

CONTROVERSIAL GOAL Arjen Robben scores his second Champions League goal in seven matches with a left-foot finish from a tight angle, but should it have been allowed? In the build-up, Thomas Muller looked to have body checked Jordi Alba as the full-back looked to get back at the Dutchman. Highly controversial, but referee Viktor Kassai from Hungary waved away strong Barcelona protests.

  • 72'

BAYERN CHANGE Luiz Gustavo replaces striker Mario Gomez, which means Thomas Muller will be the Bavarians' target man now.

  • 70'

BARCA CHANCES Lionel Messi breaks into the 18-yard box before Dante blocks his shot. Then, from the corner, Marc Bartra's effort at goal is well handled by Manuel Neuer, but that was half a chance for Barcelona.

  • 68'

INFLUENTIAL MESSI Lionel Messi is getting a few more touches as he looks to influence proceedings. Alexis Sanchez's cross drifts out for a goal kick, but there was nobody in the box to aim his cross at.

  • 65'

BETTER FROM BARCA The Spanish side are keeping better possession as Bayern sit back and look to counter. They do so through Franck Ribery, but he flashes his cross just too long.

  • 63'

DEFENSIVE ROBBEN Arjen Robben has been outstanding tonight and the Dutchman shows his defensive ability to get back and make a challenge. Meanwhile, Dani Alves very nearly finds Lionel Messi.

  • 61'

OVER-HIT PASS Philipp Lahm gets back to tackle Andres Iniesta and Bayern win the throw to the delight of the home support. Arjen Robben runs into space, but his through ball for Franck Ribery is over-hit.

  • 59'

SO CLOSE Bastian Schweinsteiger drills a right-footed free-kick into the box, but Arjen Robben can only direct his header wide of the far post. That was a big chance to put the tie beyond the Blaugrana.

  • 57'

ALL BAVARIAN PRESSURE Barcelona are by no means out of this tie. An away goal would change the whole picture. Thomas Muller fails to control his header, but the Bavarian crowd are loving every minute of this performance. An "FC Hollywood" style display.

  • 55'

BRILLIANT BAYERN It's been a masterclass by Bayern Munich in how to deal with Barcelona. Arjen Robben cuts inside before offloading the ball to Franck Ribery, whose left-foot shot flies wide of the far post.

  • 52'

TIGHT CALL Mario Gomez did look suspiciously offside when Thomas Muller headed the ball back across the face of goal, but the Germans have got away with one there. Meanwhile, Muller drags his right-footed shot wide of the far post.

  • 49'

SUPER MARIO A simple second goal for Bayern Munich who have taken charge of this semi-final. Arjen Robben's inswinging cross is headed back across the face of goal by Thomas Muller for striker Mario Gomez to sweep the ball home. He has now scored 11 goals in 11 starts for the Bundesliga champions this season.

  • 49'

    GOOOAAALLL!!! MARIO GOMEZ

  • 46'

HERE WE GO AGAIN There have been six previous competitive meetings with Bayern coming out on top in the head to head, having won three games to Barca's one. The Catalans have never won away against Bayern (two draws, one defeat) as the second half gets underway in Bavaria. If that first-half was anything to go by, then we should be in for an even better second period of action.

  • 45'

HALF-TIME Bayern Munich lead Barcelona 1-0 at the break thanks to a goal from Thomas Muller after 25 minutes.

  • 45'

COMING ON STRONG Lionel Messi plays a delightful angled pass in for Jordi Alba, but the full-back runs out of grass to run into. This time Franck Ribery tracks Dani Alves and makes a better clearance, but the Catalans are coming on strong here without really creating a clear-cut chance.

  • 43'

MAD FRANCK Franck Ribery makes another hash of his clearance before Alexis Sanchez climbs all over Javi Martinez for a Bayern free-kick.

  • 41'

BARTRA BOOKED Barcelona centre back Marc Bartra is next to go into Viktor Kassai's book after a high challenge on Thomas Muller.

  • 40'

POOR HEADER Franck Ribery dangerously tries to head the ball back to Manuel Neuer and that almost gets him into trouble. Bayern head coach Jupp Heynckes has a word with him as he passes by.

  • 38'

GOMEZ BOOKING Mario Gomez just cleans Lionel Messi out and that leaves referee Viktor Kassai no option but to show him a yellow card.

  • 34'

NO TIME Javi Martenez does not allow Andres Iniesta any time on the ball. The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has never been on the winning side when he's come up against Barcelona.

  • 32'

ANOTHER PENALTY APPEAL Dani Alves has been Barca's best player so far this evening as he looks to play a one-two. Meanwhile, Bayern appeal for another penalty as the ball hits Alexis Sanchez on the arm from a corner. Once again, referee Viktor Kassai waves away appeals.

  • 28'

SUPER DEFENDING That was the breakthrough they wanted and it came through the sheer physical strength of the German side. By the way, Lionel Messi has hardly been in this game, although he almost scores an equaliser at the back post if Dante doesn't get a touch to send it behind first.

  • 25'

FIRST BLOOD BAYERN Arjen Robben dinks the ball into the box and Dante heads it across the face of goal for Thomas Muller who throws himself through the air at the far post to head it past Victor Valdes. That's his sixth goal in 11 Champions League matches and his 19th goal this season.

  • 23'

QUICK ALBA Marc Bartra's poor pass is collected by Bastian Schweinsteiger who gets Mario Gomez moving, but Jordi Alba gets back to concede a corner. That comes to nothing as goalkeeper Victor Valdes is felled.

  • 21'

TIGHT ENCOUNTER This is a tighter game than most observers had been expecting. The Bavarians are playing compact and narrow and we're still awaiting our first real chance of the game.

  • 20'

LAZY ROBBEN Arjen Robben is caught in an offside position from a short corner, but the last few minutes have been better for the Bundesliga giants and head coach Jupp Heynckes will be much happier on the touchline.

  • 16'

DISCIPLINED DEFENDING The German side are keeping their discipline, but seeing that this is a team that score at will in their own domestic league, it must be a strange feeling having to defend tonight. Philipp Lahm's shot deflects off Gerard Pique and out for a corner.

  • 14'

DEEP DEFENCE Bayern Munich have not kept a clean sheet in their last 12 Champions League games at home against Spanish opposition and Barcelona are happily keeping possession at the back. Every Bayern player is behind the ball in their own half.

  • 12'

BARCA SETTLED Pedro tracks David Alaba and wins his side a throw. You would have to say that Barcelona have settled the better of the teams, although Bayern look so dangerous on the counter-attack.

  • 10'

PITCH PROBLEMS Both sets of players are struggling to stay on their feet because the pitch has been watered so heavily. Meanwhile, Gerard Pique heads the ball wide of the target from a left-footed inswinging corner.

  • 8'

SWARMING AROUND Lionel Messi is still waiting to get his first touch, but when he does three Bayern players swarm around him. The visitors are looking to take the sting out of the game.

  • 6'

BAYERN PRESSURE The pace is Bayern is frightening as Jordi Alba wins his side an early corner. Defender Gerard Pique climbs highest to head the ball away as the Germans pin their opponents back.

  • 4'

EARLY SAVE Javi Martinez plays Arjen Robben in with a beautiful backheel and the Dutchman's toe-poke is well saved by Víctor Valdes, but Bayern Munich opened up Barcelona so easily.

  • 2'

SYSTEMS AS EXPECTED No surprise that Jupp Heynckes has set his starting XI up in a 4-2-3-1 system and will want his German giants to try and snatch an early goal here against the Catalans. Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez are the German side's attacking foursome. The visitors have set up in their 4-3-3 system with Alexis Sanchez, Pedro and Lionel Messi their attacking three. Who will come out on top tonight?

BAYERN MUNICH TEAM NEWS Bastian Schweinsteiger has been passed fit after a hamstring injury and takes his place in midfield while Mario Gomez has been handed the lone striker role over Claudio Pizarro. The Germans are without suspended striker Mario Mandzukic and injured midfielder Toni Kroos (thigh) while Javi Martinez also starts ahead of Luis Gustavo. Gustavo, Dante and Philipp Lahm will incur a ban with their next yellow cards.

BARCELONA TEAM NEWS Their main talisman Lionel Messi has been passed fit after recovering from a hamstring strain. The Argentine World Player of the Year sat out Saturday's 1-0 La Liga win at home to Levante but was given the go-ahead by the medical staff this afternoon. Tito Vilanova has given 22-year-old Marc Bartra the nod to play in central defence alongside Gerard Pique with regular pair Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol out injured. Eric Abidal has to make do with a spot on the bench which includes David Villa and Cesc Fabregas. Pique, Jordi Alba and Alex Song are one yellow card short of a suspension.

MATCH PREVIEW Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich host Barcelona in tonight's mouthwatering UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena as two European superpowers collide. The Bavarian giants have steamrolled their way to a 23rd Meisterschaft in record time and are on course for league, Cup and Champions League titles. The four-time winners produced a 6-1 humbling of Wolfsburg in a DFB-Pokal semi-final a week ago, and the same scoreline to sweep Hannover aside in their domestic league on the weekend. Their domestic record is simply frightening. With 81 points from a possible 90 they have suffered just one defeat in 30 matches and scored 89 goals compared to just 14 conceded. Bayern lost last year's final at home to Chelsea and were also runners-up in 2010, but the "untouchables" are close to peaking and will look to get the job done on their home patch this evening. This will be the Catalans' sixth consecutive Champions League semi-final and they face their sternest test in the competition. Of their last 14 knockout away legs, since the last-16 ties of February 2009, Barca have won just three. However, it has been eleven years since they were beaten on German soil - 17 games ago, a run stretching back to 2001 when they lost to Bayer Leverkusen. Since then, they have won five games and drawn three. The Blaugrana only know one way of playing and that is to attack. If they stick to their principles, then we should be in for a sensational encounter between two of the best teams in world football. The winner of this tie will meet either Borussia Dortmund or Real Madrid in next month's final at London's Wembley stadium.

HEYNCKES' ADMIRATION OF BARCA Bayern head coach Jupp Heynckes expects Lionel Messi to start the match in Bavaria, but he believes the Spanish giants do not rely solely on the Argentine and says they're a 'top-class team' with the threat of goals from all over the pitch. "Of course I guess Messi will play tomorrow," said the 67-year-old. "For us Barca are not just Messi. Barca have a team of many top players. There is (Andres) Iniesta, who is a great player – he was European player of the year - and look at (Gerard) Pique, Xavi, etc. They have a great potential and we are preparing to face an absolute top-class team."

  • 0'

EARLY BAYERN TEAM NEWS The Germans are without suspended striker Mario Mandzukic and injured midfielder Toni Kroos after he tore an abductor muscle in his thigh in the quarter-final first leg against Juventus. Bastian Schweinsteiger should be fit after a hamstring injury while Javi Martinez is expected to be given the nod over Luis Gustavo in midfield. Gustavo, Dante and Philipp Lahm will incur a ban with their next yellow cards.

XAVI PROMISES BARCA ATTACK Barcelona's Xavi has promised their opponents an all-out attacking style in Munich tonight. And the 33-year-old feels that if the Blaugrana play like they did when they hammered Italian giants AC Milan 4-0 in their last 16 second leg clash, then they will have a great chance of reaching the final. "We'll attack, we don't know how to play any other way and we need away goals, this is a strong opponent, but I think we are coming to Munich at the right time," said the Spain midfielder. "Ball possession will be crucial, we know we are at our strongest when we keep the ball. It's a 50:50 match, they are German champions, in their cup final and have reached the semi-finals without problems, which couldn't always be said for us. The Milan game was the reference for us, we held the ball very well, moved around and we had a lot of pressure from the back. We were playing completely on attack, the Milan match was the most important for us, more than the PSG game. We will try and dominate the game so we can take a lead back to Barcelona."

EARLY BARCELONA TEAM NEWS Their main talisman Lionel Messi has recovered sufficiently from a hamstring strain in time to feature tonight. The Argentine World Player of the Year sat out Saturday's 1-0 La Liga win at home to Levante and although he has not yet been given the all-clear by medical staff, he was included in the squad for this massive clash. Tito Vilanova will be without injured defenders Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol, leaving him with a headache in deciding who will partner Gerard Pique at the centre of the defence. Eric Abidal is in contention after starting his first league match in 14 months at the weekend while Marc Bartra is also an option. Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Alex Song are one yellow card short of a suspension.

MATCH OFFICIALS The referee in charge of this encounter is Hungarian Viktor Kassai. He works as a travel agent and is somewhat of a good luck charm for Barcelona. He has officiated them on two occasions; the first was in the Champions League final at Wembley in 2011 and the second was when they thrashed Milan 4-0 at the Camp Nou this season. His assistants for the night are Gyorgy Ring and Robert Kispal while his additional assistants behind the goal are Tamas Bognar and Mihaly Fabian. The fourth official is Gabor Eros while the UEFA delegate is Jim Stjerne Hansen from Denmark. Bertrand Layec from France is UEFA's referee observer.
